Food Forest Fun for Youth

The Laurier Heights Food Forest is offering to host up to ten enthusiastic young people, ages 12-14 who want learn to grow their own vegetables.

Exploring and observation is encouraged. Tasting and smelling the plants growing around us, straight from the earth is likely. Working (planting, weeding, harvesting) in the food forest will be part of the experience.

Ideally participants will have access to a place at home to grow their own small family garden. Excess seed will be given to each member of the group for planting at home.

Food Forest produce will provide food for our potluck dinners & the food bank.

Meeting Times:

  • Saturday, May 9, 10:00 am-12:00 pm, Planting cold-germinating seeds

  • Saturday, May 30, 10:00 am-12:00 pm, Planting warm-germinating seeds/bedding plants

  • Summer meeting times: Twice/week (e.g. Tues & Thurs), early evening.

Equipment needed each time: garden gloves, a trowel, a few ziplock sandwiches bags.

Recommended Dress: old washable clothing; long pants for kneeling on soil.
