Rezoning & Development in Laurier Heights

LHCL Board and Civics Team Letter to the Community regarding Rezoning and Development in Laurier Heights

As your Laurier Heights Community League board, we recognize that there are many differing opinions and thoughts regarding the development and rezoning proposals within our neighbourhood. We want to reiterate that we fully support the City of Edmonton’s district planning efforts and have been actively engaged with the planning committees. Our goal has always been to keep our community informed and involved in the progress of these developments.

Currently, there are two major rezonings proposed in Laurier Heights: one at the corner of 145 Street and 87 Avenue, and another in the leased space we have lovingly called Gazebo Park. Both sites have been sold and are now in the rezoning process. If you have any questions about these rezonings, please use the contact information available on the signage at these locations and listed below. The Community League would be happy to direct you to the appropriate contacts to discuss your concerns or support for these rezonings.

1. Parc Laurier (aka Gazebo Park): https://www.claritydevelopment.ca/public-engagement-parc-laurier

2. 14427 87 Avenue: Andrew Olsen at EINS, andrew@eins.ca

We understand that these proposed rezonings will impact our neighbourhood and community. We encourage residents to reach out to our City Councillor, City administration, or the planners and developers directly with their questions or concerns. The LHCL board’s position on all development projects in our neighbourhood is to be a resource for our community members and to establish relationships with the builders and developers working in our area. We aim to facilitate the flow of information, resources, and public engagement efforts as much as possible through our communications via social media, email newsletters, and our quarterly print newsletters.

Laurier Heights has always been a welcoming and inviting community for all. We encourage everyone to approach these discussions with open minds, focusing on how we can maintain the integrity and beautiful community spirit we all cherish, while also embracing new construction, living options, and amenities that can enhance our neighbourhood and make space for more people to become a part of it.

The Laurier Heights Community League board is made up of a small but dedicated group of volunteer neighbours who contribute their time, gifts, and skills to keep our community engaged and informed. We are an open and transparent board, committed to upholding our Community Values, which include fostering innovation and creativity by being open to change and by identifying and initiating new ideas, approaches, activities and proposals in and with the neighbourhood.

There are many opportunities to get involved with the community league, and more voices are always welcome at the table. If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities, please email our president or past president at
