Volunteer Board Opportunities.
We have two exciting positions available on the Board of the Laurier Heights Community League: Communications Team Lead and Facilities Team Lead.
Join the Laurier Heights Community League Board
As Communications Lead– you have a team to help develop communications strategies, messaging, promotions and branding to effectively reach Laurier Heights residents. You have a lot of opinions about websites and social media, but you’re also passionate about reaching those in the community who don’t rely on these tools for information. You advise the executive if the media has questions about the neighbourhood and the league.
Time Commitment: ~10 hours per month
Skills: A keen eye for design, editing and proofing. Delegation. Experience with social media posting (Facebook, Instagram) and website content management (Squarespace). Assets: Familiarity and skills with MailChimp, spreadsheets, Google Suite and backend website management.
The Communications Lead Role is a voting board member and is responsible for:
Gathering a team of community members/volunteers to manage effective communication throughout the community.
is responsible for the creation, publication, and delivery of the LHCL print newsletter (4 X a year)
supervises and, along with their team members, maintains artifacts such as the League website, newsletter, and social media accounts
works with the Block Connector team, Events Team Lead and other Board members as needed to ensure timely information is communicated.
Facilitates effective communication with other community entities such as Laurier Heights School, churches, businesses and Canterbury.
As Facilities Team Lead, you are responsible for maintaining the Community League hall and grounds. This consists of purchasing supplies, coordinating maintenance of league equipment, oversight of any contracts for cleaning etc. and keeping the building and grounds in good order.
Time Commitment: 15-30 hours per month
Skills: Basic knowledge of tools, small engine repair, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC.
The Facilities Lead Role is a voting board member and is responsible for:
Gathering a team of community members/volunteers to assist in facility matters
shall have control for, and keeping a record of all keys to the Community League’s
buildings and grounds;
the development and maintenance of the community halls, rinks, amenities, parking lot, gazebo park, and grounds and other league facilities
reviewing and preparing policy and procedures with respect to the facilities.
